Kids’ Day doesn’t always have to be on 1 June. We’ve set out to prove this and so, on 10 July, we organised a unique activity day for children in the ARGON building. The event allowed adults to spend some quality time with their kids and to meet some extraordinary and inspirational people. We’re certain that all participants had a chance to experience a brief but intensive sports adventure.
Even during the sign-ups, you could feel an atmosphere of happiness, uncertainty and excitement. Pretty soon these feelings gave way to curiosity (though masked by some), engagement and delight. A modern office building on your typical workday is not a playground, which is why the treasure hunt event was so exciting. A total of nine activity stations were set up inside lobbies, retail shops and unfinished office space. Each of the stations was dedicated to a different sports discipline and equipment, in a creative way, offering kids a true hands-on experience.
The ARGON lobby became a fencing salle, its ivory decor tactfully blending in with the elegant snow-white fencing outfits and sabres. The kids were keen to go en garde and discover that fencing is not limited to adults. Meanwhile, the ENJOY Food&Life restaurant offered close encounters of the basketball kind (where many slam-dunks were attempted), while Officyna featured a similar concept with the TORUS-sponsored Wybrzeże Gdańsk handballers. We’ve been told the kids’ goalscoring rate was well above average!
The other activity stations were set up on the 7th floor of the ARGON building. It wasn’t the first time the soon-to-be office space hosted a non-work event however; as it had already served as a concert, business networking and workshop venue. There, former Polish boxing champ Iwona Guzowska awaited potential challengers, though many bold young boys dared not take up the gauntlet. The next stop was a meeting with professional cyclist and triathlete Bartosz Banach, who had brought along his aerodynamic bike helmet, bicycle and a professional „triathlon machine” that weighs a mere eight kilograms!
At station six, four-time Seven Summits mountain climber Maciej Brzozowski showed the young adventurers the ropes. Afterwards, TORUS’ Maciej Suchanowski and his Seahawks Gdynia American football team amped the adrenaline. The eighth station offered something for the parents: a meeting with cyclist Paweł Gołębicki (also from Torus), who shared his secrets to making your work and time-consuming hobbies agree. The final station proved to be very popular. There, triathlon and total immersion swimming coach Tadeusz Czepukojć demonstrated his swimming technique using suspension cables instead of water!
All our little participants received souvenir bags with gadgets, goodies and a healthy snack. The reception from both the children and their parents had been enormously positive, which will surely motivate us to do similar events in the future – stay tuned!
