On 27 March, we hosted another group of students from the University of Gdańsk at Alchemia, as part of our Torus LINK series of workshops. This time, we took our young visitors on a journey to the world of finance. At State Street Bank, the students got to know the global, institutional dimension, while representatives from Idea Bank and Tax Care talked about corporate financial needs - a useful lesson for future entrepreneurs.
A tour of the State Street Bank office in Alchemia's Titanium tower was a great chance to learn about one of the oldest financial institutions in the world. The company's Poland branch (Gdańsk and Kraków) employs over 5,000 people. The visitors met with the local team that is responsible for everyday bank activity, including investment fund accounting, financial reporting, derivatives, alternative investments and risk management. A number of possible ways to join the State Street team were also presented, including summer internships and current job openings. The bank is very open to students, preparing them to enter the workforce and enabling them to pursue a career in global finance.
The second half of the workshop was hosted by Mateusz Grodecki, business coach and Key Account Manager at Tax Care, who discussed the practicalities and challenges of running your own business. Mr Grodecki discussed the pros and cons of entrepreneurship, the procedures of starting up a company in Poland, business financing, taxation and cost optimisation. He also discussed tax payers' obligations and modern accounting methods, presented as a combination of practical know-how, recent developments and trivia from the finance and accounting sector.
The meeting was held at the modern office of Idea Bank, in Alchemia's Argon building.
